Lake Ilopango, El Salvador

Lake Ilopango is a central El Salvador. Occupying the crater of an extinct volcano, at an altitude of 442 m, it has an area of 100 sq k
m. In 1880 the water level rose, a natural channel was formed on the eastern side, and the resultant drainage left a volcanic island in the center of the lake. The island is known as Ilopango Volcano.
